Porsche’s New Electric Macan Is as Perfect as an EV Can Be

The Macan has always been one of the best crossovers you’re able to buy if you’re a driving enthusiast. While the internal combustion version of the compact crossover is still on offer, the completely redone EV model pushes things to the next level. It shows that electric vehicles can be just as exciting to drive as those powered by gasoline.

The Macan EV is one of a number of compact luxury EVs that have just hit the market, going up against the likes of theGenesis GV70 Electrified, the Cadillac Optiq, and the Audi SQ6 e-tron. While other options might deliver slightly better on the promise of luxury, the Macan is by far the most enjoyable to drive.

There are four different trims to choose from, delivering better standard features and improved performance as you climb the ladder. While the Turbo is certainly alluring, we’d stick with the 4, which offers the best balance of price, performance, and driving range. As with most Porsches, customization is near endless and there are a number of extras to choose from. The only one we would strongly recommend is the Premium Package, which adds 14-way power-adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, heating in the back, four-zone climate control, and an upgraded sound system.

Changes for 2025

Porsche has added two new trims to the lineup for the 2025 model year. The rear-wheel drive base model is new, as is the dual-motor 4S model. The 4S comes standard with air suspension and adaptive dampers, and it can also be equipped with the torque-vectoring system that can be found in the Turbo models. Slate Gray Neo is a new color option avaliable on every model and new 20-inch wheels join the list of available options.

Warranties and Maintenance

Compared to other luxury EVs on the market, the Macan gets coverage that is about average. Both the bumper-to-bumper coverage and powertrain warranty are comparable to what other automakers offer. The German brand doesn’t offer complimentary scheduled maintenance, unlike brands like Genesis.

Porsche Has Updated the Interior in the New Electric Macan

Porsche is a brand that finds a good balance between comfort and performance. The interior of the Macan EV is distinct from the ICE model, feeling slightly more open and refined. Not only is this crossover a weapon to drive, but it is impressively practical, offering comfortable seating and tons of storage.

Interior Dimensions and Comfort

In classic Porsche fashion, interior dimensions are not readily available. There is, however, more than enough space in both the front and the back, and you’re not likely to have any passengers complain about being cramped. Cargo space is more than reasonable for the segment. Being an EV, the Macan has a three-cubic-foot frunk that pairs with the 18-cubic-foot trunk.

Some have complained that the Macan doesn’t quite offer the luxury vibe that its price tag would suggest, but we think that is entirely subjective. Thoughtful materials have been used throughout the EV’s cabin, with plenty of recycled materials being used alongside the vegan-friendly fake leather upholstery.

Infotainment and Technology

Screens play a big role in the interior of the Macan EV. In front of the driver is a customizable 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster. To its right, central on the dashboard, is a 10.9-inch touchscreen which serves as the display for the infotainment system. A second 10.9-inch screen which sits in front of the front seat passenger is optional. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both, of course, standard.

There is a ton of other tech in the cabin of the Macan that helps make it feel upscale. Ambient interior lighting is on offer with a number of colors to choose from. There are plenty of USB-C ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad is standard up front. A 10-speaker sound system is standard, but you’re able to upgrade to either a 14-speaker Bose system or a 21-speaker Burmester system instead.

A Balance of Performance and Driving Range is Found With the Macan EV

When it comes to performance EVs, there is a lot of balancing that needs to be done. People want something quick but they also want to be able to go relatively far on a single charge. The Macan EV manages to preserve thefantastic driving experience on offer in the ICE modelwhile also delivering impressive amounts of range.

The Macan EV comes in four different potencies, with each model delivering different levels of performance. The base model is the only single-motor, rear-wheel drive model, with the rest coming with a dual-motor, all-wheel drive setup. Every model comes standard with air suspension and adaptive dampers, with the 4S and the Turbo getting a torque-vectoring system as well. Also, optional is rear-wheel steering.

While the Base and 4 don’t deliver pin-you-to-your-seat levels of acceleration, they still feel plenty nippy. The 4S and Turbo are the models to go with if you want the acceleration that is generally associated with EVs. Regardless of which model you opt for, you’ll find that the Macan EV is just as good through twisty sections of road, perhaps even better thanks to its lower center of gravity. Steering feel could be improved slightly, though.

Every Macan EV makes use of a 95-kWh battery pack. This means that regardless of which model you choose, you’re getting close to 300 miles of range, which is pretty reasonable given the levels of performance on offer. More impressive is that the 4 delivers similar levels of efficiency to the Base model, and the 4S is near identical to the much quicker Turbo.

The Macan EV supports DC fast-charging at up to 270 kW, and Porsche claims you can go from 10 percent charge to 80 percent charge in 21 minutes, something that a number of outlets have confirmed. This makes it one of thequickest-charging EVs on the market.

Safety and Driver Assists

Most of the equipment you’d expect to be standard in the Macan is standard, with things like collision detection and mitigation systems on offer from the word go. Lane-keep assist is also standard, with Porsche offering a more sophisticated lane-centering system as an optional extra. Strangely, adaptive cruise control is not a standard feature, and you’ll have to pay extra for it.
