Home Assistant, the open-source home automation platform, has officially added SwitchBot to its ‘Works with Home Assistant’ program. This is a big step forward for anyone with smart home appliances because it helps make the ecosystem more complete and easier to manage.
Among the newly supported devices, the SwitchBot Multitasking Robot K20 is notable for being the first cleaning robot in the Works with Home Assistant program. It’s also the world’s first multi-tasking home robot. The K20 can team up with other certified SwitchBot devices, like air purifiers, to create clever automation in Home Assistant.
For example, if cooking smells fill the air from an unattended pan, you could use the Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition to call the K20, with an air purifier on top, to roll into the kitchen and clean the air. Since both the K20 and compatible air purifiers work over Matter, everything remains locally controlled without requiring cloud connectivity. The K20 is also useful for people with limited mobility, especially since some models come with a tabletop.
For those who prefer Matter, SwitchBot offers devices certified to work with their Matter hubs, specifically the SwitchBot Hub 2 or Hub 3. Some devices also support Matter-over-WiFi, meaning they can work on their own without needing a hub.
Home Assistant is currently testing even more of SwitchBot’s Matter devices for future inclusion in the program. Still, here’s the full list of currently certified SwitchBot devices:
Many of these Bluetooth devices also support Matter when used with a SwitchBot hub. However, Home Assistant Container does not support Matter; you’ll need Home Assistant OS. This first batch of certified devices is apparently just the beginning. SwitchBot is working to add more tested, fully supported products for Home Assistant.
Some Switchbot devices aren’t listed above, but that doesn’t always mean they won’t work. It might just mean they haven’t gone through the program’s strict testing yet or don’t fit the current requirements. Some devices may still work with Home Assistant, even if only partially, or utilize connection types not yet supported by the program.
The primary goal of Works with Home Assistant is to focus on devices that have been proven to work smoothly and reliably with Home Assistant. The certification agreement requires devices to work fully in Home Assistant without needing the cloud and is a promise that must be kept over time.
