Summary

Playlists are a big part of the Spotify experience and appeal, which is why the company spends so much time beefing up playlist features. Last year, Spotify introduced the ability to use AI to help generate playlists based on prompts. Now, it’s being expanded to more markets.

The concept behind the feature is pretty simple, and it’s one of those uses of AI that actually makes sense. Imagine you have an idea for a playlist for a specific mood, activity, or vibe. You could spend a bunch of time combing through songs and similar playlists, or simply tell Spotify your idea.

For example, you might say, “chill nighttime music to listen to in a hot tub.” Spotify will spit out a playlist with suggested songs and ask you to refine the playlist with more prompts. Songs in the playlist can be easily added or removed as you tweak. Once it looks ready to go, simply tap “Create,” and it’s in your library. Like any playlist, AI-generated ones can be shared with friends and further edited whenever you want.

Spotify offers a few pro tips to help you get started. Prompts based on genre, mood, or specific artists tend to yield the best results. However, don’t be afraid to get weird. Animals, activities, movie characters, colors, and even emojis can be used as prompts.

To spark your imagination, Spotify suggests trying out prompts like “Afrobeat tracks to heat up the dance floor,” “Trending K-Pop hits I need to know,” “2000s reggaeton for soaking up the sun,” “Songs to hype me up for the football match,” or “Upbeat Latin songs from my top genre.” You get the idea.
