Roku, the wildly popular streaming platform that sells TVs, streaming sticks, soundbars, and more, is finally ready to enter the streaming subscription service market. Today, Roku announced Howdy, an ad-free video streaming service with over 10,000 hours of content for only $3 per month.
Available in the United States starting today, August 5th, 2025, Howdy delivers a wide range of video streaming on-demand content at an affordable price point. Being called “Howdy by Roku”, this new service has a huge library of films and TV series from a slew of your favorite production studios, including Warner Bros. Discovery, Lionsgate, and more.

While no one was asking for another monthly subscription fee and streaming service, Howdy wants to do things differently. As I’m sure you’re all aware, every streaming service continues to increase prices every few months, and here’s to hoping Howdy doesn’t do the same thing.
What makes Howdy by Roku unique is that you’ll only pay $2.99 per month for access to nearly unlimited video content. Better yet, it’s completely commercial and ad-free. And while Roku specifically mentioned that the $3 price tag isn’t a teaser or introductory price, and that it’s “here to stay,” it’ll be interesting to see how long that lasts. There are no contracts, and you can cancel at any time.
“Priced at less than a cup of coffee, Howdy is ad-free and designed to complement, not compete with, premium services. We’re meeting a real need for consumers who want to unwind with their favorite movies and shows uninterrupted and on their terms. Howdy is a natural step for us at Roku, extending our mission to make better TV for everyone, by making it affordable, accessible, and built for how people watch today,” said Roku founder and CEO Anthony Wood.
Howdy Is Only on Roku Devices, At Least For Now
According to the press release, Howdy is only available on Roku devices, at least initially. So, as long as you have aRoku TVor Roku Streaming Stick, you’ll be all set. That said, the company confirmed it’ll roll out to mobile devices and other platforms in the near future. In the meantime, you may access Howdy through the Roku mobile app on your phone.
To get started or check it out yourself, you can go tohowdy.tvand see if some of the highlighted content is up your alley. At launch, we’re seeing some pretty lucrative films, includingElvis, Dirty Dancing, and countless others. Along with series likeWeedsandNurse Jackiefrom Showtime. Again, Howdy already has over 10,000 hours of content available.
From the sounds of things, Howdy will simply be a streaming service that gets better over time with an increasing selection of content in its streaming library. That said, Roku won’t be doing any original programming like we see with HBO, Hulu, or Netflix, as that’s what makes everything so expensive. Howdy will look to avoid price hikes by working with other producers to bring new or existing popular content to its platform at a wallet-friendly price point.
