TheMophie Magnetic Vent Mountis simple to use and quick to put together. Yes, it lacks the wireless charging of the pricierMophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe, but the housing-free mounting pad makes it easy to plug in a Lightning cable.
Design: Ready for Your iPhone in Seconds
Out of the box, the Mophie Magnetic Vent Mount includes the mounting pad assembly, a rotatable off-set extension arm, the vent-grip assembly, two threaded plastic lock-nuts for attaching the mounting pad to either the vent-grip or extension arm, a cable-management clip, and a cleaning wipe.
The main calling card of the Mophie Magnetic Vent Mount is its MagSafe mounting pad. Instead of traditional vent mounts that use some kind of housing that locks around your phone, the Mophie’s magnetic pad grips the MagSafe contact points on the back of certain iPhones (and a few other devices). And while I’m not usually the biggest fan ofmagnetized itemsholding my mobile devices, I must admit that the A to B connection is very strong. Plus, when in portrait mode, the housing-free mounting pad allows access to your phone’s buttons and charging port.

Setup: You’ll Be Up and Running in Just Minutes
Putting together the Mophie Magnetic takes no time at all. Before mounting, the one thing you’ll want to decide is whether you want to use the standard assembly, which keeps your iPhone at the same height as the vent-grip piece, or the off-set extension arm. The latter option adds a little extra height to the iPhone’s mounting position. While both configurations allow for multi-angle rotation, the extension arm gives you a little more room to play with.
Once you’ve made the call on standard or off-set, I recommend adjusting the length of the vent grip’s metallic hook. You’ll need this piece to hang over the housing of your car vent, which then gets locked into place. When I tested the Mophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe, I extended the hook to about half the length of my finger to ensure I had enough slack. Next, attach the vent-grip piece to either the standard mounting pad or to the extension arm (which then gets attached to the mounting pad). Now hang the metallic hook over the vent you’ll be using, and turn the back end of the vent grip until the entire mount feels snug. At this point, your car vent should also be locked open.

And that’s all there is to it! A couple of things to look out for, though: Be mindful of that metallic hook. I wish the company went with a plastic hook instead because the metal tends to scuff up the car vent. Also, when tightening the mount down, it’s a good idea to use your free hand to steady the magnetic pad portion; otherwise, the entire mount tends to wobble around.
Driving Around: No Sinking Ships Here
I took the Mophie Magnetic on several errand runs, and like my experience with the Mophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe, the less-expensive iteration worked like a charm. My iPhone 12 didn’t move an inch on the mounting pad, even when I drove over potholes and other bumps in the road. There were some slight vibrations around the phone screen area, but this wasn’t distracting to me in the slightest.
Both portrait and landscape positions were solid, the off-set extension arm was easy to rotate, and the housing-free mounting pad made it easy to plug in and unplug my USB to Lightning while driving. If you’re looking to ditch wires altogether, for $60 more, the Mophie Wireless Charging Vent Mount with MagSafe adds up to 15W wireless charging to the mount (but you’ll need to connect a USB-C to 12V DC adapter to power the charging pad).

While the Mophie Magnetic is primarily for iPhones, the magnetic pad also did a nice job at hanging onto my AirPods Pro 2 MagSafe charging case. I’d also be willing to bet that you wouldn’t have any trouble sticking aSamsung Galaxy S22 or S23on the pad.
Should You Buy the Mophie Magnetic Vent Mount?
While theMophie Magnetic Vent Mountcosts a few more dollars than your traditional third-party vent mount, that extra $10 or $20 goes a long way. Not only will you have access to your iPhone’s charging port and buttons, but the mounting pad creates a firm seal between the mount and your iOS device, so there is no worrying about your phone falling off when you hit a pothole.
