Summarize Long, Complex Videos

While researching a topic for How-To Geek articles, I often need to sift through various YouTube videos. Unfortunately, not all videos are short and to the point. Some are lengthy, and the main points are explained in a very complex manner. To understand these videos efficiently, I turn to Gemini as my time-saving hero.

The process is simple. I click the share icon on theYouTubevideo I want Gemini to work on. In the Share in a post window that pops up, I copy the video link by clicking the “Copy” button.

Then, I head over to Gemini, paste the copied link into the text field, and provide a prompt likeSummarize this YouTube video for me.

Regardless of the video’s length, Gemini takes just a few seconds to process and delivers a concise summary of the video.

Analyse a YouTube Video

My mom runs a cooking channel on YouTube, and she has competitors whose channels she closely follows and analyzes. As a viewer, it’s very difficult for her to analyze a video from another creator because she might have to use different tools and manually determine which factors are the most important. However, with Gemini, she can easily analyze a YouTube video and see if a similar type of video would perform well on her own channel.

To analyze a YouTube video, we simply copy its link, paste it into the Gemini text field, and enter a prompt like,Analyze this YouTube video and tell me who the target audience is. Also, tell me the user sentiment about this video and why it performed so well on YouTube.

Gemini will then take a few seconds to process our request and provide us with the answers we’re looking for. The fun part is that we can even use Gemini to analyze our own videos. For instance, we can provide a link to one of our YouTube videos and ask Gemini questions like,What can I do to improve the quality of my YouTube video?Gemini will then provide us with suggestions that may help us enhance our video quality.

Look for a Particular Type of Video

It’s super easy to search for videos on YouTube. But what if I’m looking for a specific type of video that addresses a particular concern I have? Let’s say I just bought a fiddle leaf fig plant and want to find YouTube videos on how to care for it.

If I search for this topic on YouTube, I’ll be bombarded with hundreds of similar videos. There’s no easy way to tell if the videos YouTube suggests actually address my specific concern. This is where Gemini comes in handy.

I can perform a similar search with Gemini, and it will recommend only the videos that directly address my concern. For example, I could give a prompt like,I just bought a fiddle leaf fig plant. Find me YouTube videos on how to take care of it.Gemini will then present me with videos that actually answer my questions instead of just showing me hundreds of videos around that topic.

These are just a few ways I use YouTube with Gemini. The possibilities of using Gemini for your convenience are endless. However, always remember that even with all its innovations, Gemini is still an AI chatbot. Therefore, it’s common for it to show incorrect results. So be sure to carefully review the information it providesinstead of blindly following it.
