What Happens When You Mute Someone on Snapchat?
When it comes tomuting people, Snapchat offers you two options, and the effect depends on which option you choose. The first option is to mute someone’s Stories. When you do this, the app doesn’t display the muted person’s Stories in your Story bar. This way, you can watch the Stories you’re interested in while keeping the unwanted ones out.
Another mute optionis to block someone’s message alerts. If you don’t wish to receive a notification when a specific person sends you a message, you may mute their alerts in your Snapchat app. Unlikeblocking a person on Snapchat, muting allows you to still have the option to view that person’s messages, but the app won’t notify you when you receive new messages from that user.
Both these mute options are reversible, meaning you canunmute someone’s Stories and message alerts any time you want. Note that Snapchat doesn’t notify the user when you mute their Stories or message alerts.
How to Mute Someone’s Stories on Snapchat
To mute someone’s Stories so you don’t see that content in your Story bar, use the following steps.
Launch the Snapchat app on your phone. In the app’s bottom bar, tap “Chat” (a speech bubble icon).
On the “Chat” page, find the user whose Stories you want to mute. Tap and hold on this user’s name and choose “Story Settings” in the menu.
In the “Story Settings” menu that opens, turn on the “Mute Story” option. Then, tap “Done.”
And that’s it. Snapchat has muted the selected user’s Stories for you, and you won’t see that user’s Stories in your Story bar anymore.
Later, if you’d like to unmute their Stories, turn off the “Mute Story” option.
How to Mute Someone’s Message Notifications on Snapchat
If you don’t wish to receive analert when someone messagesyou, you can turn off their message notifications in your Snapchat app as follows.
Start the Snapchat app on your phone and tap the “Chat” icon in the bottom bar.
On the following screen, tap and hold on the user whose message alerts you want to turn off. In the open menu, select “Chat Settings.”
In the “Chat Settings” menu, turn off “Message Notifications,” then tap “Done.”
You’re all set.
From now on, Snapchat won’t notify you when your selected user sends you a message. You’ll be able to see that message on your “Chat” screen, though. In the future, to start receiving message alerts again, enable the “Message Notifications” option.
