Turn on Google Drive’s Dark Mode on Android

On an Android phone, use the Google Drive app’s built-in option to turn your entire app dark.

Start by launching Google Drive on your phone. Then, in the app’s top-left corner, tap thehamburger menu(three horizontal lines).

Choose “Settings” in the menu.

In the open menu, select “Settings.”

On the “Settings” page, in the “Theme” section, tap “Choose Theme.”

Select “Choose Theme."

Select “Dark” in the theme list.

To go back to Google Drive’s default theme in the future, choose the “System Default” option.

Enable Google Drive’s Dark Mode on iPhone and iPad

On an iPhone and iPad, Google Drive respects your device’s default theme. So, if you’veenabled your device’s dark mode, Google Drive will use that theme, too.

To enable dark mode, you must be running iOS 13 or later on your iPhone and iPadOS 13 or later on your iPad.

Enable “Dark."

Launch Settings on your device. In Settings, select “Display & Brightness.”

From the “Appearance” section, select “Dark.”

Tap “Display & Brightness” in iPhone Settings.

Launch the Google Drive app, and you’ll notice it now uses dark mode. You’re all set.

Activate Google Drive’s Dark Mode in Chrome and Edge

Google Drive on the web doesn’t offer an official dark mode. If you want to use a dark theme on the site, you’ll have to use Chrome or Edge’s unofficialforced dark mode feature.

That feature is located in theweb browser’s experimental featuressection. To enable it, first,launch Chromeor Edge on your desktop.

Enable “Dark."

If you’re on Chrome, then type the following in the address bar and press Enter (or Return):

If you’reusing Edge, enter the following in the address bar and hit Enter (or Return):

Type “dark” in the “Search Flags” box.

On the “Experiments” page that opens, at the top, select the “Search Flags” box and typedark.

In the search results, next to the “Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents” entry, click the drop-down menu and choose “Enabled.”

Enable the forced dark mode option.

You now need torestart your browserto bring your changes into effect. To do that, in your web browser’s bottom-right corner, click “Relaunch” (Chrome) or “Restart” (Edge).

Your browser will reopen. Now, head to theGoogle Drivesite, and you’ll find that it uses a dark theme.

Select “Relaunch” in the bottom-right corner.

Use Google Drive in Dark Mode in Firefox and Safari

Unlike Chrome and Edge, Firefox and Safari don’t have a forced dark theme for websites. Instead, you need to use a browser extension to enable dark mode on your sites, including the Google Drive site.

If you’reon Firefox, you can grab theDark Readerextension for free. On Safari, you’ll have tobuy the same extension. Once you’ve installed the extension, you can use it to toggle on dark mode.
