Mozilla Firefox receives major updates roughly every four weeks, giving the web browser a steady stream of bug fixes, new features, and security enhancements. Firefox 141 is now rolling out with tab group improvements, new address bar shortcuts, and more.
First, when you’re creating a tab group, Firefox now has the ability to suggest names for your tab groups and additional tabs to include. This is powered by a local generative AI model, similar to the page translation functionality thatrolled out in 2023. Mozilla said in a support document, “Tab groups enhanced by AI operate entirely within your browser, keeping everything on your device. AI on your device respects your privacy and makes it quicker to provide suggested tab groups and names. Specific URLs you visit are not shared with Firefox.”

Speaking of page translation, several more languages have been added to Firefox’s translation support. They include Albanian, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Kannada, Malay, Malayalam, Persian, and Telugu.
Mozilla has also improved vertical tabs again, this time with an option to adjust the size of the tools at the bottom of the sidebar. You can drag the divider up or down to change how much space is available for tabs.

You might recall that a calculator, weather panel, and other information was added to Firefox’s address bar inprevious updates. Starting with Firefox 141, the address bar is also a unit converter for units of length, temperature, mass, force, and angular measurements. You can also use it to convert timezones, with phrases like “now in GMT” or “10am EDT to CET.” I personally use Wolfram Alpha for that on a regular basis, so I’ll be curious if Firefox’s implementation is just as reliable.
Firefox 141 also has the usual collection of new web platform APIs to make sites better and more powerful. WebGPU support has finally arrived, giving Firefox the same ability to render modern GPU-accelerated content as Chromium and Safari. It’s rolling out first to Windows, with support for Mac and Linux planned “in the coming months,” and Android support sometime after that. Dialogs and popovers in pages have also been improved.
Finally, there are some platform-specific improvements worth mentioning. Firefox on Windows 11 now uses the system’s fonts for caption buttons, and on Linux, the browser now consumes less RAM on Linux and doesn’t require a forced restart after package manager updates. Firefox for Android now has auto-lock for private tabs and an improved URL bar, and Firefox for iOS has a refreshed homepage and simpler toolbar layout. Mozilla also says there are “Speed improvements and behind-the-scenes fixes” on iOS, but didn’t clarify what was actually changed.
